Common Maintenance Areas – Damage to plants and dumping of debris

Posted on: January 21st, 2020

The landscaping committee was recently made aware of significant damage to numerous plants on common area maintenance slopes in the south mesa behind Brae Mar Court. This included about fifty agave and furcraea plants which are each worth about $40 resulting in over $2000 of damage. It was obvious that the damage was done by young children who may not have known about the overall result and that their actions caused the plants to die.

Please be mindful of intruding on common maintenance areas like the slopes as many of the plants are quite sensitive to significant human traffic. Also, the slopes can be very slippery particularly after rains and rattlesnakes are known to inhabit these areas.

The landscaping committee wants to focus on maintaining and enhancing all of the common areas and avoid having to spend precious funds to replace what were healthy plants.

Also, the committee noted that several owners or their gardeners had dumped plant debris in common maintenance areas and city owned property that includes surrounding trails. All plant debris from an owner’s yard should be removed by the owner using their own means. They could be cited and/or fined by the community or city if the plant materials are not cleaned up.
