Help with shortages of Personal Protective Equipment

Posted on: May 5th, 2020

San Diego community- frontline healthcare providers who are treating COVID 19 patients now urgently need your help. Hospitals around the country and in San Diego are facing severe shortages of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as this massive scale of the pandemic has disrupted global supply chains. During the coming weeks as lockdown measures are lowered, ANY donations, small or large, of physical N95 masks or other PPE, or small and large financial donations, could truly make a difference.

Last Mile San Diego PPE is part of a national grassroots volunteer network made up of concerned volunteers from all walks of life and backgrounds, who have come together to organize a rapid response team to acquire and distribute these necessary PPE directly into the hands of frontline providers. A Co-founder of the SDPPE branch, Amy Aminlari, is a local ER physician residing in Encinitas Ranch, and works at Scripps Encinitas ER. Her husband is also an ER physician in San Diego. The difference between our group and others is that we deliver PPE directly to the nurses, doctors and MAs in need immediately, and without an intermediary.

Over the last month, with the help of the San Diego community and Last Mile group, as well as generous donations from major corporations such as MGAE cares, Last Mile SDPPE has been able to donate 13,265 pieces of PPE across all San Diego hospitals in need, with efforts concentrated especially in southern San Diego as they are experiencing a surge, and transferring patients to northern San Diego because of capacity. Last Mile SDPPE is also crossing the border with the national Red Cross of Tijuana to help their hospitals and healthcare providers In dire need.

Please help us in whatever capacity you have: check your storage and emergency kits, reach out to surfboard shapers and construction or flooring companies that you know for supplies of N95 masks, spread the word, donate other PPE, or volunteer with us at www.sandiegoppe.com. Any financial donations are appreciated if you have the means. https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/last-mile/amyaminlari
