Spring 2020 Landscaping Update

Posted on: May 20th, 2020

The Landscaping Committee has done an outstanding job of maintaining and enhancing the landscaping in the common areas and slopes across the community. The board is getting many compliments from homeowners and even realtors about the quality and overall attractiveness of the community.

There are always areas for improvement and as input is received from individual owners it is passed along to the committee and BrightView for follow-up. It is useful to remind all of the membership of the vast scope of work for landscaping in Encinitas Ranch:

  • Over 248,000 square feet of turf
  • Over 453,000 square feet of street parkways and trails
  • Over 546,000 square feet of large slopes
  • 15 irrigation station controllers
  • 600 valves
  • Over 36,000 sprinkler heads

Below is a brief recap of the landscaping enhancements projects completed since January of this year:

  • Added raphiolepis as in fill on Ranch Road
  • Planted Ravean Entry Monument society garlic and daylilys at the Ravean Court entry
  • Added daylilys at the Paseo de las Verdes entry monuments next to Quail Gardens Drive
  • Added senecio succulents as in fill at the Via Zamia entry
  • Added carissa and lampranthas at the Devonshire entry
  • Filled in bare spots at the top of Cascadia Lane on the north side with arctotis and agave pups
  • Removed old coast rosemary and installed agave pups and  furcraea on the Paloma Court trailhead that provides access to the golf course trail
  • Added lampranthas and pink muhly grass at the base of what is referred to as the Zig Zag Trail that is accessed from Lynwood Drive and Cypress Hills Drive
  • Removed old honeysuckle and planted carissa, raphiolepis and lampranthas  shrubs at the eastern end of the trail accessible from Paseo de las Flores
  • Replaced old rosemary at the eastern end of the trail that borders the community at the very southern end

The largest and most significant project just completed is adjacent to the golf course trail and behind Spanish Bay Court. We expect that this area will look spectacular once the plants have had a chance to grow in.
