All homeowners should seriously consider regular annual maintenance on their irrigation drain lines that lead to the streets and gutters. Our Landscaping Committee has noticed a number of homes where water is leaking into the gutter of the streets from these drain lines. It is easy to spot a problem when a trail of water is found running down the street.
There are two potential causes. The first is overwatering in the front, side or back yards. The second cause is related to a water leak perhaps from a water feature like a fountain.
It is recommended that homeowners hire a company with the proper equipment to clean out the drain lines and to check for leaks. Over time the drain lines become clogged with tree roots or get crushed and this can create serious problems.
