Recently, the city agreed to turn over maintenance responsibility for the center island on Paseo de las Verdes as a result of months of lobbying the Parks & Recreation Department as well as senior city staff. The board has approved removal of the three africian tulip trees and replacement with three date palms. This will coordinate nicely with the date palms on Paseo de las Flores which were planted earlier this year.
As a reminder the city of Encinitas owns all of Paseo de las Verdes except for the center island at the entry. They maintain the parkways including the oak trees and they are also responsible to enforce the three hour time limit for parking. The community has no role to play with parking enforcement on this street.
We expect to transition the irrigation to our community, install electrical power for lighting then plant the new palm trees in the next two to three months.
We believe that this will have a significant impact on the overall aesthetics of the south mesa. The expenses associated with this work will be paid out of our reserve account.
