The recycled water project for the south mesa was officially completed in early July. This project began in the summer of 2015 with the San Elijo Joint Powers Authority (SEJPA) agreeing to provide the infrastructure to bring recycled water into the south mesa allowing the community to irrigate all of the common areas with recycled water. The project benefits not only the Encinitas Ranch Community Association but the City of Encinitas and Foxpoint Farms. It saves 45 acre feet or 14.7 million gallons of potable water per year. It is one of the largest recycled water projects undertaken in the history of San Diego County with multiple beneficiaries.
In addition to reducing our reliance on potable water it provides a long term sustainable source of water which has few if any usage restrictions. With potable water the community had very specific guidelines on the amount of time available to water and with recycled water those restrictions are eliminated. With the old infrastructure we could have lost millions of dollars of landscaping were a severe drought to occur. We are now able to preserve our valuable landscaping and common areas for the future and help maintain our overall appeal, property values and aesthetics. Over the next ten years it is estimated that the community will save in excess of $400,000 in water costs.
BrightView Landscaping and Burtech Pipeline were several of the key partners in the development and implementation of the project and they both did an outstanding job with minimal impact on homeowners.
