Preventing residential burglary-Tip of the day
Residential burglary suspects size up their opportunity to successfully beak into your home, by looking at it from curbside. If a suspect, standing in front of your home, sees areas around your home with high shrubs, trees blocking the views of windows, and fences blocking the views of neighbors, that home stands a good chance of becoming a target. Burglary suspects hate being seen breaking into a home, and therefore being apprehended. Here is what you can do
(1). Make sure that shrubs around windows are no higher than 24″, and that they don’t block the views of any portion of the window.
(2). Cut the bottom 8″ of shrubs so that if someone is standing between the home and shrubs, their feet can be seen by first responders. This is especially important at night.
(3). Make sure to have good lighting around the perimeter of your home and leave them on all night. Use L.E.D light bulbs which are both energy efficient, and give off brighter lighting.
These are just some of the things you can do initially, to have these criminal by pass you home in the first place. Having a Crime Prevention Specialist from the North Coastal Sheriff Station come out to your home, and do a complete evaluation is the second thing you can do. Keeping you and your property safe is our main objective!
