Encinitas continues to improve bike safety with the completion of new “Cross-Bikes” on Encinitas Boulevard at Balour Drive and Via Cantebria, and on Manchester Avenue at Mira Costa College. These dedicated bike crossings, newly painted in a distinctive bright lime green, are designed to enhance visibility and safety for cyclists.
Cross-Bikes are specifically designated for cyclists who wish to avoid merging through traffic lanes to make a left turn at the intersection. To use them, simply position your bike to be ready to cross, use the crosswalk button, just as you would if crossing on foot, wait for the signal, check for cross traffic then cross in the green painted area.
Additionally, striping work on Quail Gardens Drive is nearly complete, and includes buffered bike lane improvements. Remaining tasks include crosshatch markings for the buffer lanes and reflective raised pavement markers.
