The residents of Encinitas voted for a new mayor and two council seats on November 5th. Bruce Ehlers was elected the mayor to succeed Tony Kranz. Tony had been the mayor for the past two years. Luke Shaffer defeated Allison Blackwell for the district one council seat and Jim O’Hara beat Destiny Preston for the district two council seat. Encinitas Ranch is represented by the district one council member. District two covers parts of old Encinitas.
All three of these council members ran on a platform of opposing further development along Quail Gardens Drive and keeping L-7 as a park.
The city ballot initiative to increase the local sales tax from 7.75% to 8.75% appears to have failed. The incremental revenue was intended to be used for infrastructure improvements.
