This is a reminder that the speed limit on all Encinitas Ranch streets is 20 MPH. There are numerous signs posted throughout the community indicating 20 MPH. In addition, the community owns several portable speed feedback signs that display the speed of vehicles. The data is captured and shows that many drivers are exceeding the speed limit. Below is a photo of one of these speed feedback signs which are moved around every few weeks. This is done so to capture the attention of the driver.
Also, there has been a noticeable increase in the use of the green safety signs used to indicate that children could be playing in the area.
Below is a photo of these signs.
The community is offering a word of caution regarding the use of these signs. While the intent is very noble the fact is that these signs could give children a false sense of security and create a situation where a child may think that they are safe playing in the street but they could be at risk of an accident.
Also, the use of these signs creates the potential for more liability for the entire community if there is an accident.
Please exercise caution in using these signs. Law enforcement recommends that you only place them out when children are present and playing and remove them afterwards. Drivers tend to ignore these signs if they are always in one location.
