Below is a short recap of all of the major landscaping projects completed in 2020 across the entire community. These projects were selected and approved by the Landscaping Committee that is led by Ed Richardson and Sandy Gallagher. All of them were based on a set of priorities outlined in the committee’s formal annual Landscaping Strategy plan and in close collaboration with BrightView Landscaping.
The priorities for projects are based on visibility and visual impact:
- Monuments and main entrances
- Circles and roadway planters
- Street corners and intersections
- Tree maintenance and trimming
- Parks
- Trailheads and path intersections
- Large and visible banks
Major landscaping projects for 2020:
- Renovated a long and large portion of the golf course trail behind Spanish Bay Court
- Renovated the common areas along portions of Cypress Hills Drive and Paloma Court
- Renovated the top of the interior trail that connects Cypress Hills Drive to Lynwood Drive, installed additional drainage and added new water bars to divert runoff
- Upgraded the entry to Lauren Court
- Infilled the south side of Paseo De Las Verdes
- Installed pressure regulators at two connection points on the irrigation lines to assist with maintaining consistent water pressure from the new booster pump station on Paseo de las Flores
- Replaced the booster pump unit that services Lauren Court
- Rebuilt over 1,500 sprinklers in turf areas throughout community in addition to numerous repairs made to the irrigation systems.
- Gained agreement from the City of Encinitas to add and replace numerous trees and parkway plant material on Paseo de las Flores
- Developed and formally adopted a strategic landscaping plan for 2021
- Provided ongoing preventative tree maintenance to many large trees which represent great assets to the community Including a disease and pest plan
- Overseeded all of the community turf during the weeks of October 12th and 19th
- Maintained close working relationships with both the Olivenhain Municipal Water District and the San Dieguito Water District both of which provide water to the community
Ground cover and shrubs are purposely planted as small one or five gallons plants because they grow and spread very rapidly. More trimming and pruning expenses would be incurred in a short period of time if larger species were planted.
