The following is a brief update on the current status of the city owned property on Quail Gardens Drive just south of Via Zamia.
On February 14th the Encinitas City Council discussed the potential use of this 10 acre parcel of land for affordable housing. The proposed plan wold call for 45 affordable housing units with most being on the east side of Quail Gardens Drive. A spokesman for the Encinitas Citizens for Responsible Development (ECRD) spokesman spoke in opposition to future actions to develop the property for affordable housing. There were over ten public speakers with most opposing any development. In the end the the council voted 4 to 1 to approve hiring a consultant to conduct community outreach and create renderings of the proposed development. These actions would be the first steps to develop plans and ultimately have them approved by the Planning Commission and the city council.
