In the past several weeks the sponsor for the South Mesa reclaimed water project, the San Elijo Joint Powers Authority (SEJPA), met with the City of Encinitas to review their detailed design plans for the project. In doing so, they learned of new policies for projects in areas where there are city owned trees. Part of the the original pipeline alignment called for it to be placed along the trail behind Lynwood Drive where there are a large number of trees. As an outcome of the meeting with the city, SEJPA and their engineering firm, Dudek are considering alternative alignments including placing the pipeline along Paseo de las Flores from Quail Gardens Drive until it intersects with Lynwood Drive and then along Lynwood Drive.
This will increase the costs of the project for SEJPA but they remain firmly committed as this project has a number of beneficiaries including the City of Encinitas, Fox Point Farms as well as the Encinitas Ranch Community Association. There will no incremental costs for our community. The expectation is the project will be completed by June of 2018.
As the plans continue to evolve we will keep everyone updated.
