City Council approves new traffic measures for Quail Gardens Drive and Saxony Road

Posted on: September 14th, 2023

On Wednesday, September 13th the Encinitas City Council heard recommendations from city staff regarding plans to mitigate speeding and improve safety on Quail Gardens Drive and Saxony Road. After a year and a half of lobbying on the part of the Four Corners Consortium the council agreed with a plan to install two four way stop signs on Quail Gardens Drive and a roundabout. Encinitas Ranch played a key role in making this happen. Numerous meeting with council members and city staff including the city traffic engineer paved the way for the council to unanimously approve these traffic measures.

Attached below is the staff report from the city traffic engineer:

One stop sign will be located at Via Zamia and the entry to 1 Channel Island and the other will be installed at Kristen Court. The roundabout will be installed at Ecke Ranch Road where the entrance to the Botanic Gardens is located.

The consortium had also advocated for two speed tables but they were not included in the final motion. Work will continue to hopefully gain agreement from the council on the speed tables.

We will keep owners informed of progress with this plan.

Also, a left turn traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Quail Gardens Drive and Leucadia Blvd. for north and south traffic. This light is to be installed in November.
