City Council takes up L-7 action

Posted on: December 17th, 2024

The city council initiated agenda item 12A from Councilmember Jim O’Hara and Councilmember Luke Shaffer regarding the status of the L-7 parcel and its zoning designation is being heard this Wednesday, December 18th.  The recommended action is to designate and downzone L-7 and any other parkland that is not designated as parkland.  The staff report to protect L- 7 and other parks should be reviewed by the Planning Commission and presented to the council within 90 days for final review.

Hopefully, this will represent the last action taken by the city to formally designate L-7 as a park. If you have personal interest in seeing L-7 preserved as a park and not used for housing, then we urge you to write the city council today. Below is a proposed email that you can copy and paste then send directly to each city council member and the city clerk.

Subject: City Council Meeting Wednesday, December 18, 2024 – Agenda Item 12A

Dear Mayor and Council Members,

I am writing each of you to express my strong support for you taking action to preserve L-7 as a park. It is vitally important to myself and all residents of Encinitas that we preserve our open spaces and parks, and set aside more city-owned property for parks. The parks and open spaces will be needed with all of the additional housing planned for Encinitas and in particular along Quail Gardens Drive.

We deeply appreciate your support in this matter.

 Sincerely,
