Dogs off leash

Posted on: September 6th, 2019

The community was recently contacted by the Director of the City of Encinitas Parks and Recreation Department about complaints of dogs on our trails being left off leash. This behavior has been ongoing for years and in some cases has resulted in injuries to dogs and people and created very unpleasant situations.

The trails that surround Encinitas Ranch are some of the most heavily used trails and most popular in all of Encinitas. Those of us who do own dogs need to do our part and follow the posted guidelines on the trails about keeping your dogs on leash.

Leash Up – it’s the law (Encinitas Municipal Code Section 8.04.160)

Leashing your dog in public area is an important part of living peacefully in Encinitas.  It’s a simple act that has many positive outcomes:

  • Presents bites and fights
  • Keeps your dog safe from traffic and wildlife
  • Allows adults and children who are fearful of dogs to feel secure

Remember, leashing your dog protects people and animals.

Report off-leash dogs to the San Diego Human Society: 619-299-7012
