Reminder of the role of Private Security in the community

Posted on: November 29th, 2021

The community continues to have a major focus on safety and security. Security services are currently provided by a company called Private Security and they were asked to provide two key services:

  1. Conduct one two hour drive through of the community late at night in a marked car with licensed patrol officers to assist with crime prevention and to help with deterring crime.
  2. Conduct parking enforcement between the hours of 1 AM and 5 AM to ensure that homeowners and their guests are following the Parking Policy.

Their focus is on enhancing security and safety in the common areas including the streets and parks. They are not a police force and they are not responsible for the security of any home. Individual homeowners are responsible for securing their own homes. The community has written numerous articles and held various town hall meetings on crime prevention with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and their Crime Prevention officers.

Private Security should not be used to address neighbor to neighbor issues. Those are best handled by the individual homeowners or through the Sheriff’s Department. By engaging with Private Security for minor matters such as noise it takes away from their primary responsibilities. Please use these officers only for serious matters related to security and safety.
